Instagram, the extremely popular social photo sharing service which was iOS exclusive until last week when it announced an app for Android too. Instagram already allows to share the photos to social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare and Tumblr. But today Facebook announced it’s intention of buying Instagram for whooping $1 Billion cash and shares. Mark Zuckerberg confirmed this news on his personal blog and also confirmed that this acquisition will not affect it’s current integration with other social networks.
We think the fact that Instagram is connected to other services beyond Facebook is an important part of the experience. We plan on keeping features like the ability to post to other social networks, the ability to not share your Instagrams on Facebook if you want, and the ability to have followers and follow people separately from your friends on Facebook.
